The effect is achieved via magnets. There is one in the base of the pendulum and one located under each option. Check out the video below for a visual demonstration.
The text is deeply laser engraved in attractive rubberwood. This ensures the text will never wash or get rubbed off throughout the years of use.

They know that nearly all people enjoy an interesting challenge and will work at something for hours on end to find the answer. So they do their best to offer interesting, fun, sometimes magical and challenging puzzles with various degrees of difficulty and various types of challenges. Many are their own creations and some are historical designs. They have extensive laser skills along with traditional woodworking. Creative Crafthouse is a true small family business with 2 sons, a brother-in-law, and a nephew working full time along with David's wife, Deb.
